If you’ve been keeping yourselves posted on The Moss's music, they’ve recently released their third album called Big Blue Moon last week on April 24, 2026. With singles "Your Way" and "Devil’s Lettuce" released prior to the album, The Moss has been working on their surf-rock music writing and rewriting songs that truly resonate with them over time.
Rory: It’s Rory here with Muah Music Media, and today we’re at the Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn with The Moss! It's nice meeting you guys and welcome back to New York City! First and foremost, I would like to congratulate you guys for releasing your third album. It was today, right?
The Moss: **all nods**
Rory: I’ve been listening to the album, actually. I just wanted to dive into the new album while it’s fresh and ask you guys a few questions about it. Did you guys reach the expectations you initially had for this?
Tyler: I feel like it ended up in a different spot, where we maybe thought it was going to going into the studio. Just a diff- not a different game plan, but kind of started chasing something in the studio, and where it ended up. But I like where it ended up better.
Rory: Are there any specific unexpected influences that shaped this album, anything out of the ordinary for you guys?
Tyke: I guess I was listening to a lot of Gipsy Kings when I was writing some of these songs…and I was listening to Mamas and Papas a lot.
Willie: Dance music!
Tyke: More 80s dance!
Ari: Yeah!
Rory: Oh okay. What sparked making this album and how has your sound evolved from previous projects that you guys had in the past?
Tyke: We’ve been working with a new producer, that we’ve kind of known for a while that we just started working with this year on our EP.
Rory: Right.
Tyke: We liked how it went with the EP. He definitely had a big influence on it. He’s like a Utah-based guy. He captures a certain region of a very Utah sound. It's just kind of who he is in a way.
Rory: Do you guys have any songs that kind of required- a different approach than the others? When you guys were making this album?
Tyler: Yeah I mean…
Tyke: The ones we did live. A couple of them are like, the main parts of a song were totally live.
Rory: Right.
Tyke: In most of the tracks, like the main elements like the drums, guitar, and vocals.
Ari: Kind of our first time.
Tyler: First takes.
Tykes: Most of the vocals, rhythm and stuff.
Rory: If you guys could collaborate with any artist right now, who would you push creatively? Who would it be and why?
The Moss: **collectively agree** Remi Wolf!
Rory: Oh yes! She’s really good!
Tyler: It’d be crazy! It’d just be cool to make something with her.
Ari & Willie: **nods agreeing**
Rory: So how are you guys feeling about tonight’s show?
Tyke: Good!
Tyler: Excited!
Ari: Really excited!
Willie: Good!
Rory: So what does a typical show day look like for you guys? Do you guys have any pre-show rituals or things that you do to get into the zone?
Tyke: Yeah I mean- it kind of changes day to day. We’ve been getting some asian soup and sake - hot sake.
Rory: Okay.
Ari: And you need one bottle of hot sake.
Rory: Hot sake? Not cold?
Willie: Not cold.
Tyler: Something about the heat.
Rory: Oh? Okay?
Tyke: That’s like what warms you up for the show.
Rory: This is interesting and it’s great for you guys!
Ari: It’s better than jumping jacks.
Rory: So, New York crowds. They typically have a reputation for being really loud and passionate. What makes performing here different from the other cities that you’ve performed in?
Tyke: The loudness and the passion!
Willie: It's always a very hectic show as well. There's a lot going on.
Rory: Right.
Willie: Shows are always big and bustling.
Rory: Because it’s New York City. You know everyone wants to be here.
Tyler: It has a different feel. I mean, electrically, 10 shows going on in 10 different subway stops.
Rory: Yeah!
Tyler: So I think if you could choose to go to a show, it’s like I’m at a show.
Rory: Right, so when you guys are on stage, is there any song that hits differently? Like every night? One that surprises you when the crowd reacts or how you guys feel performing it?
Tyke: We like, tend to switch up our setlist a decent amount.
Rory: Really? I didn’t know that. I haven’t found a very specific repetitive setlist on the internet.
Tyke: Yeah, we change it like every night or every couple nights.
Willie: We handwrite it every night. It’s open to change.
Rory: Good to know. When people walk out of your shows and you know, they listen to your music- is there a specific feeling you hope that they take with them? When they leave the show?
Tyke: I think when people come into a show I want them to feel like everybody can take off all their masks they've been wearing throughout the day.
Rory: Yeah
Tyke: You know, everyone gets ready, like comes to the concert like feel good, look good, everyone doing their thing. But even past that, it’s like “Oh, I didn’t even have to do that. I just had to come and have fun”.
Rory: So before I wrap up this interview, I just have one last question. Totally unrelated, but I have a series where I ask my friends weekly questions, and this has been the question of the week. Who’s on your nightmare blunt rotation? And you can have up to eight seats.
Tyke: Nightmare?
Tyler: Nightmare?
Ari: Nightmare blunt rotation?
Rory: Yes! I’ve been asking. You can have up to eight seats on the table.
The Moss states:
Donald Trump
Kanye
Benjamin Netanyahu
Elon Musk
The security guard that yelled at their tour manager
The Hyatt security guard
The guy from Philly
The people that honk at you when you’re crossing the street
Julian Casablanca (just in case he reads this and sees it, he has permission to get pissed at them)
Rory: Yeah so that’s pretty much all I have for you guys. Thank you so much!
