The idea of a double headliner seems difficult to pull off, and honestly, I

didn’t know what to expect walking into Peach Pit & Briston Maroney’s Long Hair, Long Life Tour. But they pulled off every chaotic second. If I had to give three quick words for the night: chaotic, whimsical, wonderful.

Outside of the madness on stage, Charlotte gave us the perfect setting. It was a not-crazy-hot summer day that made me want to just lay in the grass. (Not pictured, but a moment for the boho chic and colorfully dressed fans who absolutely nailed the vibe.)

The show opened with BNNY in the late evening, just in time to catch the last golden moments of the sun. BNNY has a unique voice—breathy, haunting, and a little nostalgic, like late ‘90s Mazzy Star. The kind of act you’ll remember seeing when they’re playing a late night show in a few years. A classic “yeah, I saw them before they were big” moment.

Briston Maroney’s set felt like stepping into a weird Florida swamp, which somehow made total sense for his new album Jimmy. A friend in the pit who had seen him a few times leaned over and said, “That little guy moves.” I thought maybe he just walked the stage. Nope. Before the first chord even hit, he was already holding his guitar above his head like a god. The energy was unreal. He opened with “Tomatoes” and “Real Good Swimmer,” and it was just one banger after another. Everyone rode the wave straight through to the encore, which ended with “Freakin’ Out on the Interstate.” I was crying. Truly, everyone was crying.

By the time Peach Pit hit the stage, it was dark and I was still riding the high from Briston’s set. I wasn’t sure I’d make it through another hour, but five minutes later, the whole band started head-banging. The “long hair” part of the tour isn’t a joke. The Canadian band completely rocked, pulling from From 2 to 3Magpie, and even their 2018 debut Being So Normal. Between the strobe lights, I could see fans losing their minds—the same ones who had gone wild for Briston 30 minutes earlier.

Whoever put this lineup together seriously gets fanbases. It never felt like a battle of the headliners. Just a perfectly chaotic night where every single person got what they came for.
